A REAL tea party

P. and I had a tea party yesterday. A REAL tea party. The weather was kind to use and we had a great time. I had been invited her “knitting aunties” (they are all under 25) parties recently since I expressed my interest in tea so P. suggested that we host a party and well… it couldn’t have gone any better.

I looked for tea party invitations and found some that were meant for bridal showers. From there I got my pencils out and designed my own and then just copied them for the invitations. And that was about the most fun I have had designing invitations ever, I usually do the birthday route, well I did, then I stopped because it wasn’t worth the time and well this also didn’t have any expectations which was also fun.

We got a lot of compliments on the design and nobody thought that is actually based on bridal shower invitations which was like a huge relief to me.

I was also so lucky to pick up these vintage wicker trays the other day at the dollar store. What I did was spray them with a turquoise paint and then gave them a soft pink wash which really made an amazing effect. P. also brought some teacups and other things, both the colors match and pottery feel are great with the trays.

And, drum roll please, the flatware I could have done a happy dance when they matched P.’s set. They were on sale at Target! I was still looking for 5 knives that go better with it but that is the joy of the thing?

I have been learning what I like lately since my first post, and well, Pu’er is my favorite tea. It is said that this tea has slimming effects, but it could work both ways. Having it before and during food will increase your appetite, having it after is good for detox and digestion. Don’t know if it’s an old wives’ tale but I’ve never tried otherwise.

I also read that:

Taking pu-erh tea in moderate amounts might be safe. However, too much pu-erh tea, more than five cups per day, can cause side effects because of the caffeine. These side effects can range from mild to serious and include headache, nervousness, sleep problems, vomiting, diarrhea, irritability, irregular heartbeat, tremor, heartburn, dizziness, ringing in the ears, convulsions, and confusion.

But it wasn’t such a hit at the party. Lady Grey was the choice of the circle and well I had enough but I could have used another pot toward the end.

All in all the party was a success.
